Timeless aesthetics

At Switchrange, we have a soft spot for design that stands the test of time. While we specialize in crafting industrial copper taps and sourcing retro light switches, we are always on the hunt for vintage lighting that shares our passion for quality materials and timeless aesthetics.

This week, we stumbled upon a true gem over at Retro Lamp Shop: a stunning Pair of 1970s Brass Double Sconces by TZ Schmitz.

Mid-Century Minimalism Meets German Craftsmanship These sconces are a masterclass in the "less is more" philosophy. Manufactured by the German brand TZ Schmitz, they channel the iconic style of Gaetano Sciolari—geometric, clean, and incredibly impactful. The design features sharp vertical lines in a rich brass finish that captures the essence of 1970s luxury without feeling outdated.

Measuring 25 cm (9.8 in) in height, they are compact enough for a hallway or powder room but bold enough to serve as a focal point.

Restored for the Modern Home One of the challenges with vintage lighting is often the wiring, but these beauties have been fully brought into the 21st century. They are professionally rewired and tested for worldwide use (110V-230V), making them as safe as they are stylish.

They take E14 bulbs and are fully compatible with modern LEDs. Pro Tip: We recommend pairing them with mirror-capped bulbs to deflect the light back against the brass, creating a warm, ambient glow that highlights the metal's texture.

The Perfect Pairing Why are we featuring these? Because they are the perfect companion to our Retro Porcelain Light Switches. Imagine the warm, gold tones of these brass sconces juxtaposed against the glossy white or black finish of our porcelain switches. It’s a mix of textures—metal and ceramic—that creates a sophisticated, curated look in any interior.

Where to Find Them These sconces are currently available in excellent vintage condition with almost no signs of wear. If you are looking to add a touch of authentic 70s glamour to your renovation project, this is a rare find.
